This webinar builds upon the ‘Hydraulic Calculations Basic Formulas’ and ‘Hydraulic Calculations for Tree Systems’ courses to cover more advanced calculation methods used for looped and gridded systems. This presentation will also discuss velocity pressure calculations and the Darcy-Weisbach formula for friction loss calculation using the Moody diagram. Participants will go through an exercise to demonstrate the concepts involved in these calculation methods and to provide a high-level understanding of their appropriate use in fire sprinkler design.
Learning Objectives:
•Understand the concepts of conservation of mass and energy for calculations of loops and grids
•Calculate the friction loss across each leg of a simple loop using the Hazen Williams formula
•Understand the required degree of accuracy for balancing hydraulic calculations
•Identify a method of calculation for complex loops and grids
•Understand the concepts of total pressure, normal pressure and velocity pressure and the associated impact on the flow of water from an operating sprinkler
•Determine when the use of Darcy-Weisbach method is required and the difficulties of this method
