While NFPA 13 ‘Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems’ is generally not considered a retroactive standard, there are situations where an existing fire sprinkler system installation must be updated to comply with the latest adopted edition of NFPA 13. This course will discuss these situations and the guidance for existing fire sprinkler system modifications found in Chapter 29. Participants will learn about this recently added chapter that includes special allowances and requirements for modifications to existing systems. The presenter will also discuss the Summary of Component Action Requirement tables in NFPA 25 ‘Standard for the Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems’ which covers necessary actions to be taken when components are adjusted, repaired/reconditioned or replaced.
