This course continues the previous training course titled ‘Fire Alarm System Initiating Devices’ covering the design and layout of initiating devices utilized in fire alarm installations based on Chapter 17 of NFPA 72 ‘National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code’. The presenter will focus on some common challenging fire detection situations and walk through several practical design examples. This will include discussing design considerations for high airflow areas, spacing reductions when obstructions are encountered and the use of cross zoning to reduce unwanted alarms. (Also see Part 1 of this training course Fire Alarm System Initiating Devices.)
Learning Objectives:
• Learn how to locate and apply the fire alarm initiating device spacing requirements in NFPA 72
• Explain reductions in coverage for high airflow areas
• Understand the different technologies involved in challenging situations including cross zoning different technologies to reduce unwanted alarms
