Based on Chapter 17 of NFPA 72 National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code, this course will cover the design and spacing fundamentals for various initiating devices utilized in fire alarm installations. The spacing requirements for spot type heat detectors, line type heat detectors, spot type smoke detectors and air aspirating smoke detection systems will be discussed. A review of flame and video detection fundamentals will also be provided. The presenter will go through several examples to demonstrate the application of these design principles. Also see Part 2 of this training course Fire Alarm System Initiating Devices Continued.)
Learning Objectives:
•Learn how to locate and apply the fire alarm initiating device spacing requirements in NFPA 72
•Understand and apply the spacing requirements for spot type heat detectors and spot type smoke detectors
•Determine when linear smoke and heat detection is most effective
