While most fire sprinkler systems are generally required to be designed and installed in accordance with NFPA 13 ‘Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems’, there is a lack of understanding on how the model building and fire codes guide this process. This course will review the differences between Codes and Standards and focus on how the building and fire codes are used when designing and installing a fire sprinkler system. The presenter will provide several practical examples to help participants gain an understanding of the fire sprinkler requirements in these documents and how they should be used together when designing a fire sprinkler system design.
Learning Objectives:
•Know the hierarchy of the Building Codes, Fire Codes and NFPA Standards
•Explain how NFPA 14 relates to the Building and Fire Codes
•Understand the fire sprinkler requirements in the International Fire Code and how that impacts the application of NFPA 13
