This course discusses occupant safety in buildings from smoke, heat and other hazards created during a fire. Based on NFPA 101 ‘Life Safety Code’ and the International Building Code (IBC), the presenter will provide an overview of the requirements for egress, exits, and emergency lighting. This includes acceptable means of egress for occupants to safely exit a building, requirements for illumination, and rules for markings and signage to guide occupants to the exits. Specific emphasis will be given to requirements for warehousing, commercial and retail occupancies.
