This presentation focuses on the residential fire sprinkler calculation options in NFPA 13 ‘Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems’ and NFPA 13R ‘Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems in Low-Rise Residential Occupancies’. Participants will learn about the hydraulic calculation requirements from these standards with specific emphasis given to Chapter 19 of NFPA 13 and Chapter 7 of NFPA 13R in determining the size, location, and number of sprinklers to include in the specific design area. Discussion will include the differences between residential and quick response (QR) fire sprinklers and an example of determining minimum flow and pressure requirements.
Learning Objectives:
•Review the hydraulic calculation requirements for NFPA 13 and 13R systems
•Understand how to determine the specific number of sprinklers that must be included in the sprinkler operating area
•Review the differences between Residential and QR sprinklers
•Understand the minimum flow and pressure requirements at the hydraulically most remote fire sprinklers
