There are many factors to the proper design and installation of a fire alarm system. The designer and installer must be familiar with the building codes, electrical code, fire alarm code as well as the manufacturers equipment specifications and installation requirements. At times there may also be listing agency paperwork that place additional conditions on the system requirements. This course will review the fundamentals of these codes and how they relate to fire alarm system wiring for design and installation. In addition to NFPA 72, this course will cover sections of NFPA 70 National Electrical Code (NEC) and selected manufacturer’s installation instructions that impact system wiring.
Learning Objectives:
•Explain which parts of NFPA 70 NEC apply to fire alarm installations
•Understand what types of conductors may be used for fire alarm installations
